Abstract:
The investigate we conducted gave the result that when a white tater vine has contact with a flavour solution, the cells will start to shrink. We did this by cutting up slices of potato and weighed them and recorded their initial weights. We used deionized water and three several(predicate) concentrations of sodium chloride solutions; 10% NaCl, 15% NaCl, and 20% NaCl. We than placed distributively potato slice in test tubes with their designated solutions. We let them pilfer for 20 minutes than we removed them from the test tubes. Next we metric their new weights and recorded them. They were; 10% NaCl decrease by 4%, 15% NaCl decreased by 8%, and 20% NaCl decreased by 12.5%.The results showed us the conclusion that the potatoes were hypertonic to the deionized water and were hypotonic to the sodium chloride solutions.
Introduction:
The objective of this experiment is to detect distribution and osmosis in potato cells in 3 solutions. Diffusion is the oral spread of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of number 1 concentration. Osmosis is a type of diffusion involving water. The results will either be hypertonic or hypotonic. Hypertonic means that the solution is much than salute than water. Hypotonic means less salute and more water.
For this lab, we can apply these principles to plant cells. The plant cells have a semi permeable membrane so they can palpate osmosis and diffusion as discussed earlier. When it comes to the potato cells, added with NaCl (salt) it will experience a reaction changing the form of the cells. The hypothesis of this experiment goes as follows, If we place potato cells in a salt solution, therefore the cells will shrink. They will shrink because when the salt is added the water in the potato, where there is high concentration, will move to the outside of the potato where there is low concentration.
