Haydn spent most of his working lifetime in the serve well of the Esterhazy family in Vienna and at their lavish summer castle of Eszterhaza. Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy kept a large melodic establishment and as the director of music at the court Haydn composed a huge quantity of music for the family.
