Whistleblowers I have chosen to write about the show window of Karen silk wood. Karen silkwood was a nuclear facility tech at a Kerr-McGee plant in Longview, Texas. After taking fracture in a strike at the plant, Silkwood was elect by the Oil, Chemical, & Atomic Workers Union to investigate wellness and safety issues at the plant. Silkwood began documenting violations made by the plant. The violations include lack of training, contamination, and poor monitoring. In 1974, she testified to the Atomic Energy counselling (AEC) about the violations. She testified that workers at the plant were world contaminated by plutonium. On November 4th and 5th, 1974, the monitors at the plant detected that Silkwood was contaminated by radioactivity. She began performing self-tests and continued finding that she was contaminated. By November 7th, Silkwoods urine was showing high levels of hot contamination (Karen Silkwood Biography, n.d.). Her apartment was tested and also showed signs of contamination.
